A Sneak Peak at Lost's Final SeasonSeason Six To Resolve Character Story Arcs, Provide Redemption
Find out what's known about Lost's highly-anticipated final season, set to air on ABC in from February to May 2010.
Can’t wait until 2010 to find out what’s in store for the Oceanic 815 survivors on ABC’s cult show Lost? Then see below for a brief summary of everything that’s known so far about the highly anticipated final season, including how the season starts and how it all ends. How Will Season 6 Begin?Season six of Lost will begin where season five left off: Juliet Burke has just detonated the hydrogen bomb on the island. Accordingly, the season premiere will explore the effects of that explosion, which star Matthew Fox (Jack Shepherd) revealed in an interview with Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online “are very surprising and probably very confusing to the audience.” General Season 6 SpoilersE! Online teased that Lost’s final season will be very reminiscent of its original season. Specifically, there will be a focus on character development and numerous episodes will involve jungle expeditions. Fan favorite Sawyer (portrayed by Josh Holloway) will also return to his roots as a hot-headed scoundrel after the presumed death of Juliet. Carlton Cuse also stated that numerous characters will be given redemption as they fulfill their destinies on and off the island. A few things that won’t be happening this season include time travel and flashbacks/flashforwards. Executive producer Damon Lindelof promised TV Guide that “We're going to do something different” to tell the story of the final season. Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online speculates that the show’s final season may revolve around an alternative timeline (or parallel dimension) that is created by the detonation of the bomb. Kristin has hinted at videos appearing in various episodes of the final season that seem to suggest events occurring in ways different from those shown in past episodes. For instance, a clip of Kate shown on a fake America’s Most Wanted says she is wanted for the murder of a plumber rather than the murder of her stepfather; a commercial for Mr. Cluck’s fast food restaurant shows Hurley as the company’s CEO rather than a lowly employee; and a commercial for Oceanic Airlines proudly announces that the company has never had a plane crash. Finally, according to the Lost Spoilers Blog, the mysterious DHARMA Initiative, which was featured prominently in season five, will have only a minimal presence in season six. How Will Season 6 End?Matthew Fox also revealed that there will be a “final conflict” in the end and that the ongoing conflict between his character Jack and Jack’s rival Locke (portrayed by Terry O’Quinn) would reach its climax. A number of the show’s most puzzling mysteries will be solved at the end of the series, including the significance of the four-toed statue, the origin and nature of the smoke monster, and the identities of the skeletons in the cave who have been dubbed “Adam and Eve” by fans. Still, many questions about the island will remain unanswered as show creators Lindelof and Carlton Cuse maintain that the show is primarily about the characters, rather than the island itself. Lindelof told E! Online, “[Lost] is about this group of people who crashed on the Island … and how they influenced the history of the Island in some ways and had a very significant and pivotal role to play there. You're going to see that role play out, and their fates will all be resolved by the end of the series.” What that destiny is remains to be seen, but if the crazy twists and turns that have fascinated and stumped (and sometimes angered) viewers for six years are any indication, then it will certainly be something that no one expects.
