Even though CSI: Miami's Adam Rodriguez is no longer a full-time investigator, he will still be on TV, as Bobby Talercio on ABC's Ugly Betty's.

Fans of CSI: Miami may be devastated that original cast member Adam Rodriguez has departed the hit procedural, but his new availability has permitted him to film a recurring role on the ABC comedy Ugly Betty.

Rodriguez's Ugly Role

Rodriguez makes his Betty appearance on Nov. 13, in the fourth season's sixth episode, "Backseat Betty." The episode will introduce Rodriguez as Bobby Talercio, in what appears to be at least a five-episode arc, with the possibility of an extension.

Producers at ABC first announced Rodriguez's arrival in September, 2009, shortly after his contract negotiations with CSI: Miami fell through. After the announcement, Rodriguez told TvGuide.com that Bobby is "an old high school boyfriend, and [he comes] back into their lives."

The show synopsis describes his character as a teacher at the school Betty's nephew, Justin, attends, which is presumably how he becomes re-acquainted with the Suarez family.

The episode will find heroine Betty once again enthralled by her high school crush, while her sister, Hilda, will be once again tempted by Bobby's bad-boy persona.

Bobby's presence will most likely be refreshing for the single-and-looking Betty, while it may open a can of worms for Hilda, who is romantically attached to city councilman Archie (Ralph Macchio).

Ironically, the last time Hilda pursued a relationship with one of Justin's teachers, he was portrayed by Eddie Cibrian, who now appears on CSI: Miami.

What Happened to CSI: Miami's Eric Delko?

Producers at CSI: Miami began laying groundwork for Rodriguez's departure at the close of the show's seventh season, as Eric Delko (Rodriguez), was shot accidentally by his lover, Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Proctor).

When the eighth season commenced, viewers watched as the CSI team struggled to find Delko, who was lost in the Florida Everglades. By the time the team recovered him, he was in a coma (which he overcame by the episode's end).

Despite surviving, Delko was unable to recapture his previous confidence. During a particularly rough case, the CSI became consumed with guilt when he was unable to save sick victims, and subsequently quit the team and ended his relationship with Calleigh.

Since his departure, Rodriguez has appeared in the Tyler Perry film I Can Do Bad All By Myself, and is slated to appear in the detective thriller Caught in the Crossfire, which co-stars Chris Klein, Christine Lakin and 50 Cent.

Despite Rodriguez's new roles, return trips to Miami are always a possibility. He already plans to appear in several additional CSI: Miami episodes, including at least one where he will be "pitted against his old coworkers as a forensics expert in a high-profile murder case," per TV Guide Magazine.
