Cold Case Returns for Season Six on CBSKathryn Morris as Detective Lilly Rush Tackles Unsolved Crimes
Cold Case is a crime drama about the Philadelphia homicide squad that tackles unsolved murder cases. CBS TV Network airs the police procedural on Sunday nights.
Cold Case is returning for its sixth season, with the season premiere scheduled for September 28 on CBS Network. The crime drama stars Kathryn Morris as Detective Lilly Rush, a dedicated female officer in the Philadelphia homicide squad who believes that no victim should be forgotten. The crime drama is about unsolved murder cases that are often many years old and long forgotten. Cast members of this crime drama include actors Danny Pino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry and Tracie Thoms. Cold Case Crime Drama Cold Case episodes start with a flashback to a brief scene that introduces the murder victim a short time before dying. Usually the scenes are of people in everyday circumstances, with no premonition of the death that lies ahead. The camera shoots to a dead body, revealing the sad fate of the murder victim. The next scene takes the viewer to current day Philadelphia and the detective squad. New evidence casts a fresh light on often forgotten, unsolved cases and the homicide squad starts digging for information to solve the crime. Solving a case that has grown cold is beyond challenging, but the determined detectives dig tenaciously, finding witnesses who have moved on with their lives. There are two actors portraying the witnesses in most episodes. A younger actor portrays the era in which the murder occurred and a older actor portrays the witness in current times. The camera shoots back and forth during the interview, so the viewer can see what the person looked like years ago and how the years have changed them. Detective Lilly RushLilly Rush is a delicate looking blond with a steely will. Legend has it that she takes the victim's picture home with her and puts it next to her bed, because she believes no victim should be forgotten. In the last episode of Season Five, Lilly had trouble relating to a mother with an addiction problem whose child had died in an apartment fire.. The mother came to the department because she believes that she saw her child in a park, still alive. Lilly's mother was an addict, so the case brings back memories of neglect that she had experienced in her own childhood. Case ClosedCold Case brings heart to the cases, in which the victims are usually sympathetic. The endings are almost always sad, and at the very least bittersweet. Years after the crime, justice is served. When the case is solved and the guilty party confesses, the viewer sees the murderer get handcuffed and put in a jail cell, along with flashbacks to the younger self that committed the crime. Music plays as the cardboard box with case evidence is placed back on the shelf, and marked closed. In the most touching moment of the show, the murder victim appears to a person close to the case, usually Lilly. Whether this is a vision, imagination or a ghost is unclear. The victim makes eye contact and disappears. Cold Case Portrays Past Eras Cold Case portrays past eras in recent history with styles, music and scenery. The case may go back to couple of years or several decades. While many of the shows are about the 1980's and 1990's, there have been episodes about crimes during the World War II era and even earlier. The nostalgic music of the era sets the mood as witnesses recall the victim and past events. Cast of Cold Case
