The premiere of Desperate Housewives Season Five, has jumped ahead five years into the future, leaving behind some of the dragging plot lines and starting new stories featuring the ladies of Wisteria Lane. The ABC prime time soap opera balances an entertaining mix of melodrama and comedy on Sunday nights.
The housewives of Wisteria Lane have aged five years, which have not always been kind. Gabrielle has lost her glamorous sheen, Lynette's monster twins are troublesome teens and Susan is again single. Back-stabbing Bree has written a cookbook, taking credit for Katherine's recipes. Edie returns with a handsome husband who has a mysterious agenda.

Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker)
Glamorous Gabrielle has softened with age and two children. When Edie see Gaby for the first time, the vixen asks what happened to her looks. In a cosmic joke, Gaby's four year old daughter looks like heavyset, blind husband, Carlos. After being humiliated at a birthday party, because of comment made about her daughter's weight problem, Gaby attempts to get the child some exercise by having her run behind the car on the way home.
Bree (Marcia Cross)
In a flashback, the viewer learns that bitchy Bree has been caring for her daughter's child, but the young mother has now married and has taken back custody of the boy. Bree cries that Orson is gone and without the baby she will have nothing left. Her husband comes into the kitchen and tells her to come to bed. Bree is publishing a cookbook, but takes credit for Katherine's recipes in the process.
Susan (Teri Hatcher)
Susan and her husband were in a car accident that killed another mother and child. The accident pulled the formerly happily married couple apart and they are now divorced. Susan is having a hot sexual relationship with her house painter, which she keeps secret from her friends.
Lynette (Felicity Huffman)
Lynette's bratty stepchild was written out at the end of last season, when her accusation of child abuse backfired and her father sent her away. Fast forward five years and the mother finds her troublesome twin boys running a gambling ring in her restaurant. She grounds them, but is undermined by her lenient husband, who ungrounds them so they can go to homecoming. Upset, Lynette tells the twins that they can take their father's restored convertible to homecoming.
Katherine (Dana Delany)
Katherine has gone from Bree's friend and catering partner to subordinate in the catering business. In a humorous exchange she sabotages Bree's photo shoot by challenging her to put the spun sugar on a dessert, something Bree has never done before.
Edie (Nicolette Sheridan)
Edie still plays the sexy vixen, back in Wisteria Lane to make trouble for the ladies. Her creepy husband has a secret past and mysterious agenda
