The Angel Castiel is sent back to Heaven leaving his human host vulnerable, and Dean learns Sam's Secret.

Until this episode, fans had only theory when it came to the human host of the angel Castiel. "Cas" had stated that the man was devout and actually prayed to become a vessel, but no other information was provided. When Castiel is pulled back to Heaven, viewers got a glimpse at Jimmy Novak, the angel's human host, in a continuation of the interesting and entertaining episodes leading up to the season finale.

The Plot of Episode 420 of The CW's Supernatural

Dean receives a visit in his dream from the angel Castiel, who had something important to tell Dean but couldn't, and instead that Dean must find someone at a specific location before disappearing. The Winchesters go to the location, and find a badly damaged building covered in sigils known to repel angels. In the wreckage they find the familiar face of Castiel, only to learn the angel has left his host, leaving behind a confused Jimmy Novak.

Jimmy had ben a devout Christian, and was surprised but flattered to be contacted by the angel Castiel, who has him prove his faith by sticking his hand in boiling water. His wife thinks he's crazy and asks him to get help, but Jimmy agrees to help Castiel so long as his family will be kept safe. Castiel takes over his body and walks away.

After being gone for almost a year, Jimmy is happy to go back to his family, who had stopped looking for him and presumed him dead. Sam and Dean tell him that it's a bad idea; even with Castiel gone from his body, demons will still want him dead. Jimmy escapes and goes home, telling his wife he had been in a mental ward and was now cured.

Sam and Dean go searching for Jimmy and are told by the rogue angel Anna that Castiel would only have been dragged back if he had seriously pissed off someone in Heaven.

At home, Jimmy's family is attacked by a demon that has taken over the body of a friend. Novak's wife and child run away from him after he attacks the demon, but soon run into more demons. Sam and Dean help them escape, and Sam explains that he can never go back to the way things were, which stirs Dean. Jimmy says goodbye to his family and goes with the Winchesters, only to receive a phone call informing him that demons have again attacked his family and possessed his wife.

While rescuing the Novaks, Jimmy is shot and his daughter becomes the new vessel for Castiel.

Jimmy pleads with the angel, and becomes Cas' vessel once more to protect his family.

Sam cuts a demon, and is drawn by his addiction to blood and feeds on her, revealing his secret to Dean. The episode ends with Dean bringing Sam to Bobby's and locking him in the hunter's panic room.

The Last Word on the Supernatural Episode "The Rapture"

This was a great episode. Fans got to get an inside look at one of the season's recurring characters, the mystery of Castiel's message is presented (he refused to tell Dean what it was upon his return), and the pieces were set for the final two episodes.Episodes like this are what Supernatural should aspire to: a great narrative accompanied by great performances (especially from Castiel/Jimmy actor Misha Collins) and a few bits and pieces to continue the greater plot of the series.
