George and Izzie Near Death on Grey's AnatomyGrey’s Anatomy, Now or Never
Miranda turns down the pediatric fellowship; Owen and Cristina get back together; Mark gives Lexie the cold shoulder
The Grey’s Anatomy episode Now or Never was the second part of the season’s May 14, 2009 two-hour finale. Turning Over a New LeafMiranda was invited in to the pediatrics fellowship, but she was excited because her husband threatened divorce if she chose the fellowship (aka, another two years of training and long hours). Miranda asked Richard to let her back in to general surgery. Richard thought she chose her marriage, but she said she was leaving him. She said she chose general because she is becoming a single mother, and that is no time for a new specialty. Owen slept without having a nightmare for the first time in a long time. He told Cristina he could now be a better man for her if she would let him, and he kissed her before asking her to think about it. Meredith told Cristina she and Derek were getting married today. Cristina immediately gave her something old, new, borrowed and blue. Later, Cristina worried maybe today wasn’t the day because of George, the trauma patient and Izzie, but Meredith felt it was important to take the time to show Derek she loved him. Derek told Meredith that with everything going on they could wait until another day, but Meredith told her it needed to be done today. He then sat with her, and they wrote vows to make her feel better. This, to them, meant they were married. After Meredith’s speech, Cristina waited for Owen in their secret room, and she told him she loved him. She yelled at him too, but she told him she couldn’t breathe without him. He said he loved her too, and he promised they could make this work. Stopping GeorgeGeorge told Miranda he joined the army to be a trauma surgeon, and he has to report for duty tomorrow. Miranda freaked out and blamed Owen. She told him to get him out of it. Lexie was annoyed with Mark when he wouldn’t look at her. A patient overheard and told Mark to give her the cold shoulder and buy the house without her. Callie told Miranda she had a plan, but she was upset when Arizona thought it was amazing George wanted to go in to the Army. A man who had been hit by a bus came in. He was later identified as George. Izzie’s RecoveryIzzie finally woke up from surgery. She could talk and remember, and Derek told her he got the whole tumor out. A minute later, Izzie asked about the tumor again, as if she hadn’t asked before. Derek said she would be a little foggy for a while, but everyone looked worried when Izzie asked for the third time. Alex took Izzie’s recovery in to his own hands by putting flash cards of all the things she should remember all around the room. In private Cristina told Alex he needs to relax, but Alex screamed about how if she doesn’t recover it will ruin their whole life. Izzie finally asked for a break, but Alex told her to suck it up. He said he felt screwed because he didn’t want to hold up his promise for her to not live like a vegetable. She was shocked. Cristina came in to check on Izzie and was shocked that she could still remember Alex’s speech. She then ran to Owen and said yes. Izzie coded. Alex tried to save her, and Richard said to forget the DNR. The season ended with Izzie meeting George in her dreams, but no one knows if either of them actually died.
