A Real Botswana Diamond stars Jill Scott in African story

The HBO Series No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, starring Jill Scott as Precious Ramotswe and Anika Noni Rose as Grace Matuski, has wound up their first season with, “A Real Botswana Diamond.” The series features two female leads who are forced to be strong due to the circumstances in their lives.
Precious Ramotswe Portrayed by Jill Scott
Precious Ramotswe has escaped an abusive marriage and uses her inheritance from her father to open a detective agency to help the downtrodden. Grace Matuski is her earnest secretary and assistant. The ladies take whatever cases come their way, often working without pay, but helping others along the way.
A Real Botswana Diamond
Precious got engaged to the local mechanic, JBL Maatekoni (Lucian Msamati), in a previous episode, but their happiness is threatened when Precious’ ex husband appears and tells her they had never gotten divorced. He threatens Precious with blackmail, saying he would divorce her if she paid him off.
Precious kept mum about her problems, but her distracted air disturbed her fiancé. JBL took her shopping for a diamond engagement ring, where Precious insisted on a small stone, only to quickly learn that the diamond was a fake and the diamond merchant a crook.
A series of break-ins at the agency are investigated by Grace, who does not want her boss to be distressed by the news. In the meantime a competing male owned detective agency attempts a takeover of the female owned agency.
JBL’s lazy housekeeper also threatens their happiness, as she sees Precious as a threat to her cushy gig.
Precious and Grace are called “can-do” ladies by JBL, who strives to show Precious that he is worthy of her. JBL is disturbed by Precious’ distracted air and thinks it is because she does not love him.
A Real Botswana Diamond wraps up some of the story lines in the season finale, while leaving others a mystery until season two. No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency is a human series with a great deal of heart. The series deals with human emotions and the society of Africa.
