The Cleaner on A&E is a series starring Benjamin Bratt as an extreme interventionist who helps people with substance abuse problems and addictions to get clean and on to the road to recovery. Bratt's character, William Banks, is loosely based upon real life interventionist Warren Boyd, who is the Co-Executive Producer of the show. Recently Warren Boyd took part in a conference call question and answer session to talk about the drama based on his real life experiences. Warren BoydWarren Boyd has been a dedicated addiction counselor for nearly 20 years. Boyd takes an any means necessary approach to helping addicts get clean. Boyd uses an unconventional "any means necessary" to help addicts get clean. As a person who conquered his own addictions, Boyd is inspired to help others, a life mission that he is passionate about. Boyd's spiritual life, with his regular conversations with God, is an important element of series. S101: How close is The Cleaner to your real life? Warren Boyd:Well, the mechanics of the show are very close to my real life, back about 13 to 14 year ago. What you see on the show is where was about that long ago. We keep things as authentic as we possibly can and Ben (Benjamin Bratt) is really good at doing that. S101: What do you make of all the celebrity rehab shows, with Hollywood rehab like a second home to so many people? Warren Boyd: The way I feel about that stuff is that everything has a mechanism in it that can help. God bless them, because they are helping people. I have thought that anything that can be out there on a grand scale that can touch people and help people. Hopefully that is what is going on with those shows, and I think it is. S101: William has a kind of one – sided relationship to God and how he often talks to God. Did that come from your experience. Warren Boyd: I think that is carried off really well by Ben (Bratt) in the series. Honestly, I do a lot of praying and I do a lot of what I call contact with God. The way that it comes off in the series is very honest. S101: I have a question about William Bank's team. They basically play cops, kidnappers, therapists, et cetera, when doing their job. Can we expect to see consequences for their rogue manner of working? Warren Boyd: I think we did have consequences. I have had some lightweight consequences for some of the the antics used to stop people from killing themselves. Some of those have already come to light. You might see a few more. There s a lot to the show that people don't know about yet because we are really growing the show. The good thing is that we have about 18, 19 years worth of material we can pull through. There are so many really cool things that people have not seen yet. Cast of The Cleaner
