In an episode full of heartbreaking moments and unbeatable action, fans are given answers to their most pressing questions.
ABC’s hit show, Lost, wrapped up it’s fourth season, closing the book on some story lines, while still leaving a few tricks in the bag. Fans discovered the identity of the man in the casket, how to move an island in a day, and how the Oceanic 6 made their not-so-speedy get away.
In the penultimate episode, Ben surrenders to Charles Widmore’s men, but he isn’t their prisoner for long. “The Others,” alongside Kate and Sayid, ambush the men, ending the battle with Richard shooting Keamy in the back.
As Locke and Ben prepare to move the island, Keamy limps out of the elevator shaft clutching a knife. An unarmed Locke tries to reason with him, while Keamy explains the detonator attached to his arm. If he dies, a bomb will explode on the boat that is meant to provide freedom for the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. In a fit of rage over the death of his daughter, Ben stabs Keamy to death. When Locke chastises him for indirectly killing everyone on the boat, Ben says, “So,” in his usual heartless tone.
After Kate and Sayid aide Ben in his escape, he gives them the helicopter and their freedom. Jack, Sawyer and Hurley join the helicopter after a brief encounter with Locke. The survivors pile onboard, with Frank as pilot, and head towards the boat. But, before they reach their destination, Frank discovers a fuel leak. The only chance to make it to the boat is by dumping pounds. After unloading all unnecessary supplies, they still are too heavy.
Sawyer leans over and whispers into Kate’s ear. She looks surprised and asks, “Why are you telling me this?” He kisses her, and jumps into the ocean, sacrificing himself for the others.
After discovering the delicate bomb on the freighter, Michael, Jin and Desmond attempt to dismantle it. Using a canister of liquid Nitrogen, Michael is able to cool the battery enough to prevent a discharge to the explosives. Unfortunately, the effects are only temporary.
A red light indicates that Keamy is dead, leaving only minutes to escape. Desmond goes on deck to tell the crew to jump ship, and discovers the helicopter is trying to land. Just in time, Frank patches up the hole with duct tape and fuels up the aircraft one last time. Sun, who has been waiting on deck with Aaron, tells Kate that Jin is still on the ship. Kate tries to find him, but Jack forces her onto the helicopter.
Michael tells Jin to get to safety. Jin runs up to the deck, but is too late. The helicopter is already leaving him behind. Sun cries out to her husband just as the boat explodes.
After the island moves, the helicopter runs out of fuel and crashes into the water. An inflatable boat saves the passengers. In the darkness of night, a new boat happens upon the castaways. Desmond discovers that Penny is the leader of this rescue crew. Their reuniting tastes bittersweet after the death of Sun’s husband.
In a cliffhanger conclusion, fans discover the identity of Jeremy Bentham. In the final scene, Jack breaks into a funeral home to open Mr. Bentham’s casket. Ben mysteriously appears behind Jack to give him instructions. To make things right, Ben tells Jack that everyone must go back to the island. That includes Jeremy Bentham. As the camera pans over the lid, Locke is revealed as the man in the casket.
With all these questions answered, will there be anything left for next season? Absolutely.
