Lost Season Six Theories and the Hiatus

Theories: Jack, Locke, Ben, Desmond, Statue, Walt, Jacob and Reset?

The sixth season of Lost cannot come fast enough. It is hard to believe that it has already been four months since Season 5's finale, The Incident.

But, Lost fans will have to wait at least another four months, as season six isn't scheduled to air until sometime in early 2010.

Constant Speculation on Lost Fan Forums

Despite the fact that Lost has been on hiatus for months now, fans are still flocking (which is also a name for Fake Locke) to fan boards to speculate on the newest theories. As each week passes, some of the theories get more hairbrained. But this is all that Lost fans can do to keep their sanity and eagerly await the sixth and final season of possibly the best television show of the decade.

Will There Be A Reset?

Most of the speculation this summer has to do with the direction the writers will take the show next season. Did Juliet really detonate the bomb, blowing up the swan so that flight 815 never crashes in the future? Or was that what always happened, as Miles suggests in The Incident?

Desmond and the White Flash

One theory suggests that the white flash that ended the episode was eerily similar to the white flash Desmond experienced when he turned the fail safe key way back in season two. Could the Losties be sent to the past (or future in this case) and believe that they have a chance to change things just like Desmond did?

But remember, Desmond realized that he couldn't change the past. He made the same mistakes again and as Mrs. Hawking suggested, he was always fated to go to the island and push the button. Perhaps the Losties, and the audience, will think there was a reset, only to realize that they are fated to make the same mistakes again.

Jacob's Words: "It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is progress."

Jacob also said that "they're coming." It seems that by touching the 815 survivors before the crash, that maybe these people were a part of his experiment. Maybe he is trying to prove to his nemesis (Mr. X, Man in Black) that not all people are corrupt. All signs point to this playing out in some fashion in the series finale.

Ben and Jacob Planning A Long Con?

Others have speculated that Ben is still in charge: that he and Jacob have communicated in the past and that Jacob told Ben to kill him. (Think Snape in the Harry Potter series). The idea of the long con has been a running theme in the series, and it may not surprise some that Ben has been conning Jacob's nemesis all along.

What is Locke's Fate?

Currently he is being inhabited by someone else. Is the John Locke that the audience has grown to love really gone? Or does Jacob have a plan for him up his sleeve? And can Lost really end without Jack and Locke having one last confrontation?

And what of Walt, the Black Rock, Aaron, the ageless Richard Alpert, the mysterious Bram and Illana, Widmore, Desmond, Annie and who really initiated the purge on the Dharma Initiative?

So many questions, but how about one more?

How will Lost fans fill their time for the next four months, until the show finally returns?

Flocking to the fan boards to come up with more hairbrained theories, no doubt.
