More True Blood: Season 2 Premiere – ReviewWhat Happens to Sam, Maryann, Tara and Jason
Lafayette's fate has been revealed. Sookie and Bill have reconciled. Viewers learn more about mysterious Maryann and her connection to Sam. Tara has a new love interest.
Late last season, after Tara’s mother kicked her out of the house and Tara was spinning out of control, she was taken in by a “kind stranger” named Maryann (Michelle Forbes). Tara’s saviour lives on a lavish estate and claims to take in people who need help. When Maryann showed up at Merlotte’s to give Tara a lift one night, owner Sam looked as though he’d seen a ghost and it was clear that he and Maryann had a history. Sam and MaryannIn the season two opener, viewers found out more about Sam and Maryann’s history. In a flashback last season, the young Sam’s adoptive family abandoned him after seeing him shape-shift into a dog. Sam was left to fend for himself. A flashback in last night’s episode revealed that the teenaged Sam appeared to break-and-enter in order to get by. On one such escapade, he’s in a large house, stuffing sellable items into a bag when he’s caught in the act – by the woman viewers know as Maryann. Things take an unexpected turn when, instead of calling the police, Maryann chooses to relieve Sam of his virginity. Then, while Maryann’s in the shower, Sam in turn relieves her of numerous items of jewelry and bundles of cash she has stashed in her dresser drawer. One assumes that he disappears after that,. But there’s more to this story, because Maryann knows about Sam’s shape-shifting and appears to have done some of her own. In a panic, Sam empties the money from his office safe (presumably money he stole from Maryann) into a garbage bag and tries to return it to Maryann. She laughs at the gesture and it’s clear that she has tracked him down and she wants something from him other than money. Tara and Benedict: Satan in a Sunday Hat?At Maryann’s estate, Tara meets a fellow guest named “Eggs” – who is a sensitive, highly evolved, acoustic-guitar-playing Black man. To Tara’s great surprise, he appears straight, available and interested. Tara wrestles with her suspicion that Eggs and the whole Maryann experience is what her mother calls “Satan in a Sunday hat” – a little too good to be true. But when Eggs moves in for a poolside kiss (thwarted by a towel-offering manservant who is later assaulted by Maryann for the interruption), and shows up at Tara’s work to finish what he started, Tara decides that she’s ready for things to go right for herself for a change. Jason Finds JesusIn the first season finale, Rene Lanier was confirmed as the serial killer who had been terrorizing the town of Bon Temps. Sookie’s brother Jason Stackhouse was released from jail, where he was being held under suspicion. This was to the dismay of his greatest detractor, sad sack Det. Andy Bellefleur. But it was to the great pleasure of the pamphlet-toting proselytist who helped Jason find God while behind bars. He’s encouraging Jason to attend a $1,200 seminar to set him on the path to righteousness. While Jason is pondering and praying for ways to come up with the money to attend, Sookie hands him the inheritance money let to her by her abusive great-uncle. New Waitress DaphneThere’s a new waitress at Merlotte’s. Her name is Daphne and she seems bland on first meeting. That won’t last. For details on Lafayette, Sookie and Bill, click on the link below:
