T he season premiere of the fifth season of Lost aired on ABC on January 21, 2009. The show lived up to its reputation of being both exciting and mind boggling.

The season premiere of Lost consisted of two episodes that answered a few questions and raised a few more.

What Happened to the Island?

The island disappeared after the Oceanic Six left in season four. Viewers find out in season five that either the island itself or the people on the island are traveling in time, though which is occurring is unknown. It is also unknown whether the island itself changed its geographic location.

Losties still alive on the island after it disappeared were Sawyer, Juliette, Daniel, Charlotte, Rose, Bernard and Locke. They are in a panic as time flips forward, backward, and forward again. Without their camp and supplies they are back to figuring out how they are going to survive.

Jack Wants Oceanic Six to go Back to the Island

Jack teams up with Ben in the season premiere in an effort to get all members of the Oceanic Six to go back to the island. It is believed that this is the only way to save those they left behind. Jack cleans himself up with a shave and attempts to kick the drugs he started taking when his misery began. He appears to want to go back to the island.

Ben

Viewers are unsure if Ben can be trusted. Sayid makes mention to Hurley that he cannot be and Ben seems to have a strange presence about him. Ben says he wants to get those who left back to the island to save it and everyone who was left behind. Viewers are not sure if these are his true motives or if his intent is more sinister.

Kate and Aaron

Kate goes on the run with Aaron after two men stating they are lawyers show up at her house demanding blood samples to prove Aaron is her son. She meets with Sun afterward who tells her the men are not out to expose the secret or they would have done so already. She believes the men only want Aaron advises Kate to kill if she has to.

Sun

Sun is still grieving the loss of her husband and joins forces with Charles Whitmore to try and kill Ben.

Locke

It is uncertain if Locke is fully dead or if he will stay that way once his body is taken back to the island. He is told by Richard that he has to die to save the island and we discover this is why he killed himself. Ben tells Jack that they have to take Locke's body back to the island with them but does not tell why

Sayid and Hurley

Sayid breaks Hurley out of a mental institution to protect him and he kills a few people in self-defense. Unfortunately the police think Hurley comitted murder and his face is all over the news as a wanted man. When Sayid is shot with a drugged dart Hurley takes him to his parents home and his father takes him to Jack at the hospital. Ben meets Hurley in his parents house and tells him he needs to come with him to where Jack and Sayid are. Hurley runs out of the house where police are waiting and turns himself in to get away from Ben.

With Hurley in jail, Kate on the run and Sun out for revenge it appears getting the Oceanic Six to go back to the island may be a challenge. The season premiere left viewers looking forward to the next week.
