The pilot program included sex, hard drinking, fast driving and a hard, tough female detective played by Holly Hunter.Saving Grace starts out with Oklahoma police detective Grace Hanadarko, played by Holly Hunter, on a self destructive path. Grace is a hard drinking, hard living police detective. Grace's self destructive behavior includes drinking alcohol out of the bottle, sleeping with the wrong men and defying authority. Grace combines drinking and driving, resulting in an accident which kills a man. Despairingly , Grace calls out to God to help her. An angel by the name of Earl appears, spreads his large feathery wings and flies Grace to the Grand Canyon to tell her that God is giving her one last chance. Earl offers to help Grace get back on track. Graces decides to turn her life around, but it won't be easy. The pilot episode had some fast moving drama, with a soundtrack by Everlast that helped shape the mood. . In the closing scene, Grace and her nephew are standing at the Oklahoma Memorial and talking about here sister, who had died in the Oklahoma city bombing. In the final scenes, the viewer sees as more tender Grace, much different from the hard, crusty character in the beginning of the program. The pilot had an edgy, hyperactive feel. The theology behind the show does not seem solid. The concept of God giving Grace ohe last chance does seem a little too Hollywood.
