The second season finale of Saving Grace, aired on TNT Cable Television On August 25. Holly Hunter has been nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Detective Grace Hanadarko. The troubled Oklahoma City Detective has a wild side and messy personal life. The final Saving Grace episode of the season focused on Grace's sexy relationship with her married partner and the case of a dead Hispanic woman. Earl, the last chance angel, appears to counsel Grace.

Detective Grace Hanadarko

Grace is played by actress Holly Hunter, who has been Emmy nominated for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" for her portrayal of the hard living detective.

Detective Grace is an antihero: a hard drinking, hard partying good time girl who flaunts adulterous affairs and behaves in a wild manner unbecoming to a police woman. Grace must be gifted at her job, because in spite of her indiscriminate behavior, she is respected among her peers on the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Grace and Ham

Grace is apparently a gifted detective, but her personal relationships are usually in ruin. Her sexually charged relationship with her lover and police partner, Ham has become more intense over the past episodes. Sexually explicit scenes make Saving Grace adult entertainment on TNT Cable Network.

Grace's partner, Ham, is in love with Grace and has left his wife, Darlene. However, when Ham's brother is killed in Afghanistan, it is Darlene that he turns to for comfort.

Earl the Last Chance Angel

Earl, the last chance angel pops in on Grace and has conversations with her as he tries to guide her to God. Initially Grace seems irritated by the angel visits, but now she takes them in stride, talking to the deep voiced angel as a friend. Grace seems frustratingly unaffected by the angel, seeing him as a curiosity. Most people would be concerned when the "last chance angel" openly shows up at their doorstep, but Grace constantly challenges Earl.

Saving Grace Season Two Finale Synopsis

Spoiler alert: This summary of the season finale contains plot spoilers.

The episode opens in the police bar hang out with Grace and her coworkers. Grace jumps up on the table and starts dancing without inhibition. Ham joins her and strips off his clothes, making a spectacle of himself.

Ham is not taking the grief over his brother's death well. In his grief, he pushes everybody away, including Grace. The tables seem to be turning in their relationship. Grace becomes the more involved party, while Ham acts like a jerk. Grace demonstrates her caring side as she tenderly understands her man and does her best to comfort and protect him.

The case appears secondary to the personal life of the detectives. A Hispanic woman is found raped and murdered. In between working on their personal problems, the detectives do manage to solve the case.

Earl, the last chance angel with the melodious voice, slides up to Ham at the bar and tries to make conversation. Ham punches the angel in the face, knocking him off the barstool. When Earl visits Grace, she asks what happened to his face, as she didn't think he could be hurt. Earl tells Grace that he is worried abut Ham, who needs God.

In conversation, Earl tells Grace that he knew Lady Godiva, legendary for riding her white horse into the town while naked, in a protest against her husband. Grace jokes that was a rough ride. Earl looks at Grace thoughtfully and says there are more rough rides ahead, foreshadowing the final scene.

As the hour of drama comes to a close, Grace is with Ham at his home. Disturbed by his behavior, Grace had disarmed his guns. Ham asks her if she thought he would commit suicide.

Ham tells Grace that he is going to ask for another partner, because she is too much for him right now. Grace is in tears as she asks Ham why he is doing this and tells him she loves him.

In the closing scene, Grace is riding a white horse into a stream by moonlight. The horse rears up with the full moon in the background.
