Shocking Revelations in Harper's Island Finale

Killer Wanted To Live On Island With Abby Forever

Jul 10, 2009 Steven Fife

With John Wakefield out of the picture, the second half of the finale reveals the twisted truth behind Henry's killings. It really was, as J.D. said, "all about Abby."

In the second half of the series finale, John Wakefield’s legacy has come to an end and it is revealed that Henry has been obsessed with Abby, his half-sister, all along. In his crazed mind, he did everything for Abby so they could live together on Harper’s Island and he believed that everyone else was in their way.

Here’s a summary of what happened in the last half of the finale:

Shea and Madison are Safe

Shea and Madison are seen in an office, where they are showed photos of the alleged victims of the massacre on Harper’s Island. They are told that they are the only survivors and that their friends perished in a fire at the church. Abby, Jimmy, and Henry are all thought to be dead and the authorities believe that Wakefield committed all the murders himself.

Abby Wakes Up

After being knocked unconscious from her fall, Abby wakes up in an unfamiliar room and is visibly confused and disoriented. She goes downstairs and finds Henry, and is reminded of the events that transpired before. Henry tells her that in killing Wakefield he chose her over his own father and that he would never do anything to hurt her. Abby is horrified and runs into the bathroom, locking herself inside. Henry says that he’ll wait for her.

What Abby Whispered To Henry

The same flashback that was showed at the beginning of the finale is shown again, but this time, the line that Abby whispered to Henry is audible. She said that she wished she and Henry could live on Harper’s Island alone forever. Henry tells her that now they can live together like she wanted and to come back downstairs when she is ready.

Henry Reveals His Dark Secrets

Abby comes downstairs with a shard of broken glass pointed at Henry. Abby now realizes that Henry is her half-brother. Henry says that their mom threw him away and reveals that he first met Wakefield in the woods the day that Wakefield committed the first set of murders. Henry and Wakefield felt an immediate connection, but Henry didn’t know that Wakefield was his real father. Abby is once again horrified when Henry tells her he was inspired by the man that everyone else feared and despised.

He then says that Wakefield tracked him down in Seattle a year later, and he was impressed by the kind of love it must have taken to reach out to his long-lost son. Henry says that Wakefield taught him about his urges to kill and that he wanted to be like his dad. He then confesses that he was responsible for all of the “copycat” killings in Seattle.

Abby Finds Jimmy Tied Up

Henry tells a disgusted Abby that he loves her. The wedding with Trish was just a hoax because it was the only way he could think of to get Abby to return to Harper’s Island. She runs off and finds Jimmy tied up in a shed-like room. Henry explains that Wakefield wanted to kill Jimmy a long time ago, but Henry needed to keep him alive as a scapegoat because Shea knew that Wakefield had an accomplice.

Henry believes he can convince Jimmy to sign a confession to being Wakefield’s accomplice in exchange for keeping Abby safe. Jimmy agrees, but only if he can say goodbye to Abby. An emotionally-distraught Abby reluctantly goes with Henry to say her last goodbye to Jimmy.

Abby Says Goodbye to Jimmy

Abby apologizes to Jimmy for leaving the island seven years ago. She kisses him and somehow transfers a sharp object to Jimmy in her mouth so that he can cut free from the ropes around his hands. She says that she loves Jimmy, and an angry Henry strikes her and knocks her to the ground. She stabs him in the foot with a screw driver and runs away again. Henry then chases her to a cliff.

The Final Struggle

Henry tells Abby that he did everything for her and that he would die without her. He says that she and the island are his home and now they can be together. Abby is mortified and shouts that she doesn’t want Henry. Henry is devastated and caught off-guard for a moment, when Jimmy lunges at him and pushes him forward. The two men fall a short distance below. Jimmy is injured and Henry somehow disappears for a moment, before sneaking back up on Abby again. Scared and confused, she stabs him with the boarding knife that he was previously carrying. Henry is dismayed. He cries and tells Abby that he loves her as he dies a slow death and then slumps over into the water.

The Aftermath

Abby and Jimmy are safe on a boat and being taken back to the mainland, as they embrace and comfort each other.

Pre-wedding Video

The series ends by showing clips from a video that was filmed on the boat trip to Harper’s Island. Each member of the wedding party is shown on camera offering his/her blessings and well-wishes to Henry and Trish. Even the future bride and groom appear in the video. Henry is the last to be shown.

The Survivors

The four survivors of Harper’s Island were Abby, Jimmy, Shea, and Madison. From what was shown, it is unclear whether or not Shea and Madison found out that Abby and Jimmy were in fact alive.

American viewers can catch the two-hour series finale on CBS on Saturday, July 11 at 9 p.m. EST. For episode recaps and character profiles, see the series’ official Web site at CBS.com.

Not that it matters much, but WHY did Abby stab Henry in the foot???? His back was turned to her, she could have easily stabbed him in the neck or somewhere a little more...effective. His FOOT???? Yeah, yeah, I know, if she had stabbed him anywhere more vital, the finale would have ended right there and they still had about 20 minutes to kill, so to speak.

She was knocked on the floor by Henry earlier and was proably alittle weak. And it did knock Henry off guard, all in all, Harper's Island was a wicked show!

I don't think Abby wanted to kill Henry at that time. She just wanted to get away from him. It wasn't until the very end when she realized that killing him was the absolute only way out.

I agree it was an excellent show!

she stabbed him in the front because his back wasn't turned he went to help her up but before he could bend down she stabbed him in the foot. she didn't have enough time to actually get up and stab him.

maybe of the idea of Henry being the killer still requires some time to sink in. It's not easy to just defend yourself by killing someone

omg! that ending was so sad!!!couldn't there have been a diferent way of making abby stay then having to kill everyone else. i mean come on, if you do that i don't think anyone would want to be you. couldn't henry had just told abby before instead of going crazy! it's a shame he had to die though, but atleast abby and jimmy got away. why did they have to make it only one season! that show was awesome!!!

Abby didn't want to kill Henry, she just wanted to get away. She later killed Henry out of instinct, the fact that she knew he was standing there and the knife was all that was beside her, she killed him out of shock.

Hi Steven,

I had suspected Henry when Trish was attacked near the pool? (I think episode 3/4 since she survived and he materialized. But, I said "No way, he could have killed her before reaching the island.

The truth hit me when JD dying & speaking with Abby but Henry was "bloody but just arriving" (Plus, I knew someone close to JD had allowed him to escape jail). My thoughts, "Oh snap, How can you kill your brother?"...Now, we know Henry had no love for JD...Anyway, thanks to you and the others like Amanda Hamilton for great reviews.

Ok...Here is my two cents! Henry tells Abby that it was not in the plan for Madison to leave the island. Then we see Shea and Madison (how far in the future????)in this police office...and some woman next to the cop says can we "borrow" your daughter? They take Madison out of the room.So Abby and Henry are half bro/sis. Does it not make sense that Madison is Abby and Henry's child, and Abby was exiled to L.A. to have the baby. Then Wakefield finds henry, tells him of the child, who they place with Shea Henry's sister in law to hatch the plan to get Abby back to the Island? Harper's Island was supposed to have a second season...So makes sense that they left it open sort of. Here is my solution to a better ending. How many times did people supposedly die and didn't! Jimmy! so you see Henry supposedly die (never confirmed) and then you see Abby and Jimmy of on a Coast Guard boat. So here is what I believe was supposed to happen. Abby and Henry were in it together. Henry is Alive, Abbby will kill Jimmy, and return to Harpers Island where Henry and Madison are alive. They can be a family! Finally, look at the wedding video. Look at the camera shot! They move the shot looking thru a small window so her face is obscured...same with Henry's words. Camera moves and he is half faced almost. Two halves make a Whole! One by One! We can do this together! Just my thoughts. Makes me happier with my ending! haha! show rocked!
