The Coast Guard finally reaches Harper's Island but it is supposedly too late; Shea is told she and Madison are the sole survivors

On July 11, 2009 all of the questions were answered in part two of the Harper’s Island finale.

Where It Began

The final began with a flashback. Abby and Henry were kids. Henry’s parents came to pick him up, and Henry’s and Abby’s mothers gave each other weird looks. Henry was leaving for the summer, and Abby whispered something in his ear before he left.

Back to the present, Wakefield reminded Henry of the ultimate goal – Abby’s death.

Shea and Madison Escape

Shea and Madison told Sully about Wakefield’s escape. Sully put Shea and Madison in a boat back to the mainland. Henry showed up at the boat house, acting like everything was fine. He told Sully Trish and him got separated, and the pair went to look for Trish, Abby and Jimmy.

In the woods Henry suggested Wakefield’s child could be helping. Henry started defending the idea Wakefield’s son is crazy like his father. He said he’d be angry too if Wakefield showed up and told him his whole life was a lie.

Finally, Henry admitted he killed Trish and J. D. He said his father is John Wakefield and together they killed everyone. Sully tried to shoot him be he had not ammunition. Wakefield showed up, and Henry stabbed Sully.

Abby and Jimmy told Henry about Trish. They went for her body but it was gone. He freaked out and ran off to find her body. Jimmy found it odd Henry would leave Trish. He said he would never leave Abby like that. Henry ran to the church, where Trish’s body was on the alter. Wakefield arrived, and he and Jimmy began to wrestle. Abby heard the Coast Guard and ran outside. Wakefield told Henry “she was getting away,” which clued Jimmy in. Jimmy shoved a flair in Wakefield’s stomach, and Henry ran after Abby.

Henry told Abby Jimmy was dead, and when Henry slipped about seeing Sully Abby began to put the pieces together. Wakefield was behind Abby at the time. Henry looked like he was lunging to stab Abby but stabbed Wakefield in the back instead.

Henry Explains

On the mainland a detective told Shea they had found everyone’s bodies, but back on Harper’s Island Abby and Henry were alive. Henry told Abby Wakefield was his father. She tried to escape the house, but Henry assured her he would not hurt her. He told her it would be just like she wanted it when they were little. Apparently, she had whispered in his ear that she wished it could be him and her alone on the island forever.

Henry told he was inspired by Wakefield and knew Wakefield was alive because he had tracked him down a year after the first rampage. He admitted he committed the killings in Seattle in front of Wakefield for practice, but said he was done killing.

Abby escaped and found Jimmy tied up. Henry brought her back to the house and told her he set it up so everyone thinks their dead. Henry said Jimmy was alive to sign a confession that he was Wakefield’s accomplice. Jimmy agreed to sign it if he saw Abby again. Abby stabbed Henry’s foot and ran off, giving Jimmy the chance to unlock himself. Jimmy found Henry and Abby, and he and Henry wrestled Jimmy off a cliff. Abby ran to Jimmy’s side. Henry came up behind her, but she turned around quickly and stabbed him. “Abby, I love you,” were his last words.

The final scenes were of Abby and Jimmy being rescued and of video congratulations from the deceased and Abby.

Cherrine Banks :
Hi Amanda,

Great summary of Harper's Island. I suspected Henry back around Episode 3/4 when Trish was attacked/almost drowned at the pool and Henry "helped" her.

I just knew when JD (his brother) was dying and Abby looked up (Henry's shirt was bloody but he was just "arriving") and he was always more protective of Abby the Friend then Trish the Bride.

Thanks for your comment Cherrine! I too had suspicions about Henry during the episode with J.D.'s death, but I just couldn't let myself buy in to the idea that Henry would be killing everyone. At the time there seemed to be no reason for it. What a shocker when it turned out Henry was Wakefield's son, though! Such a great show. I'm really going to miss it.
