S02E02 - Keeping SAMCRO Together & keeping John Teller's Dream Alive

Sep 23, 2009 Thomas Froats

The second episode of Sons of Anarchy this season focuses on Gemma, her love for Clay and the Club, and Jax furthering his ghost father's wish at a legitimate SAMCRO.

This season's second episode of Sons of Anarchy, entitled Small Tears, picked up right where the energetic first one left off, with Gemma beat up and bruised and barely hanging on. From there on it went straight into drama and turmoil as the viewers were concerned for the first time with an outsider than with someone in the Club. Of course, it wouldn't be Sons of Anarchy without some violence and heated Clay-Jax action to get the viewer right back into the swing of the testy ground that SAMCRO sits on.

Gemma's Resolve

The episode opens with Unser finding Gemma after the masked assailants had left her at the end of the first episode. She asks him to take her to Tara's so that she can get cleaned up, and more importantly, so Clay doesn't find out. She knows who did what to her, and says if the word gets to SAMCRO, then that means 'they' win. Unser tries to help and smashes Gemma's car into a barricade and tells the boys that she was injured in a car accident. They go to the hospital and see her banged up and everything fits, much to the disdain of the masked assailants. Meanwhile Gemma tries to cope with what happened, knowing that keeping it quiet will not be so easy.

Gun Business as Usual

Clay cuts a deal with the One-Niners, worried about a new shipment coming in, to deliver some AKs. Unknown to them, Weston is busy watching and taking pictures for his LOAN buddies. When the meet goes down, it seems that all is well and money and guns change hands until the Mayans crash the party and start shooting up the place. Bobby gets shot, the guns get stolen, and Clay tells the One-Niners to take their money and go home.

Before the Mayans leave Opie walks out not fearing a thing and shooting a Mayan in the head as they drive away. He has certainly changed since Donna was murdered, something of obvious concern to Clay and Tig. After the shootout, we see the leader of the Mayans talking to Zobelle, apparently LOAN let them know of the deal, and apparently Zobelle doesn't want Weston to know he was playing nice with the hispanics. At the end of the episode, Clay is not so happy with Jax after setting up the events to lead to the shootout, because of how he disposed of the Mayan body at the end of the first episode.

Legitimate Business

Word gets out to the club that Luann's pornography business is starting to fall through. She is having trouble making ends meet because someone tipped off the ATF (or maybe Agent Stahl still had a grudge, the club conjectures) and had all of her stuff raided, and then proceeded to try and steal her girls when she couldn't afford to pay wages. Jax pays Otto a visit and he asks Jax to help Luann out as he doesn't want to see her have to get back behind the camera. Then the Club pays the other producer a visit, a man played in a hilarious fashion by none other than Tom Arnold. At the visit, he is not having any of what SAMCRO says, so they meet back up to regroup. Jax pitches that the Club gets into a legitimate business with good income: take care of the rival, give Luann money, and become even partners in porn.

The Club votes yesand SAMCRO leaves to go take care of Tom Arnold and his goons at a porn shoot, baseball bats and shotguns in hand. Needless to say, it works, and they announce to Luann the new deal, and SAMCRO has themselves a new legitimate business to go with their garage. The second episode of Sons of Anarchy brought a lot to the table. Tensions deepened between Jax and Clay, Gemma does her best to protect the club, and the boys from LOAN are starting to get frustrated at their attempts to control SAMCRO and Charming. Time will only tell what could happen as all four of the rival gangs start to come undone and go after each other.
