The Vampire Diaries Will Please Twilight Fans
New CW Television Series About a Vampire Searching for Love

Vampire love has taken the world by storm. So many teens and adults have grown to thirst for story lines similar to Stephanie Meyer's popular Twilight series. With the next installment of Meyer's vampire series coming to theaters this fall, fans are beginning to hunger for the rest of Bella and Edward's story. But fans of vampire love stories may not have to wait until fall to enjoy a good romance. The CW's new TV series, The Vampire Diaries,has many of the same qualities as Meyer's Twilight books.
The Vampire Characters
Every good vampire romance must have extremely good looking vampires for humans to lust after. The Vampire Diaries does not disappoint.
- Stephen is The Vampire Diaries' Edward. He is new to town and a new student at the high school. He is hauntingly good looking and all the girls are interested in him, but he only has eyes for Elena. Like Edward, Stephen has chosen to live a "vegetarian" lifestyle and feeds off of animals only. He is hundreds of years old and has returned to Mystic Falls for a specific purpose.
- Damon is Stephen's older brother who appears at the end of the pilot episode. Damon plays the role of the villain. He is more violent than Stephen and still feeds off of humans. Damon is torturing Stephen because of an incident that happened with a woman named Katherine who died 100 years ago.
- Zack is the family member Stephen now lives with. It is unclear if he is a vampire or not. He doesn't seem pleased with Stephen's return to Mystic Falls and worries that his presence will disrupt the quiet town.
- Katherine is only known through her picture and brief conversations about her. She lived 100 years ago and had a connection to both Stephen and Damon. The cause of her death is unknown.
The Non-Vampire Characters
Like Twilight, the heroine is human, and a vampire is in love with her. She of course has a circle of friends and family who add to the story.
- Elena is The Vampire Diaries Bella. She is the story's heroine and Stephen's love interest. She is a pretty, popular girl at the school whose parents died a few months before in a tragic car accident. She is still suffering from the loss and is immediately drawn to Stephen's good looks and charm.
- Jeremy is Elena's younger brother. He is having a hard time dealing with his parents' death. He is doing drugs and is rebellious at home and school.
- Jenna is the young aunt who cares for Elena and Jeremy. She seems to be more of a friend than a parent which is doing more harm than good.
- Caroline and Bonnie are Elena's good friends. Bonnie comes from a family of witches and is clairvoyant. She sees bad things when she is with Stephen and is one of the few people who don't like him. Caroline is the less-serious of the two friends. She likes men and is interested in both Stephen and Damon.
- Matt and Vicky are brother and sister. Matt used to date Elena and still has feelings for her. Vicky is the love interest of Jeremy, but she only likes him for the drugs he gives her. Vicky is attacked by a vampire in the pilot episode, and it turns out to be Damon who attacked her.
The Plot
Stephen is a vampire who has returned to Mystic Falls because he must get to know Elena who has an exact resemblance to a woman Stephen knew 100 years ago. Stephen and Elena meet at school and have an immediate attraction. At the same time of Stephen's return, people begin to get attacked by a wild animal. It soon becomes apparent that the one doing the attacking is Stephen's evil brother Damon. Damon is torturing Stephen and follows him where ever he goes. Once Damon learns of Stephen's relationship with Elena, her life is in great danger.
Those who love Twilight will definitely enjoy The Vampire Diaries. The two stories have many similarities and will keep vampire fans on the edge of their seats. Catch up on previous episodes, and don't miss the next episode of The CW's newest television series.
